"Newbie Questions"

Did some research and found this to be a good solution to my companies needs. Got the software this week and am preparing to install.

Please excuse the dumb questions as I am not a web designer, merely a novice who is trying to handle this aspect himself. Hence, my purchase as I have read that this system is easy to set-up:

a. Have a current site with paypal buttons, no inventory control. My intent would be to replace the whole site with the catalog and shopping cart - does this software generate a home page then? i.e am index page or do I need to keep parts of my old site up and running. I also have policies and procedures page that layout returns, shipping, etc. Will that be included within the cart as well??

b. I have noticed a folder marked "installion documents" I believe, on the disk. It has what appears to be the html templates in it - do I need to pass that folder to my server as well?? There is nothing that references that particular folder in the direction packet.

c. Am I able to edit the HTML templates using a program like Frontpage or do I need to do it through code on my server??

That s it (for now) just prepping to bring my site down at a not so busy time and implement things. Trying to get my "ducks in a row" for the process.

Thanks for any help!! Look forward to getting this thing running.

mm

So... I have the files loaded and the settings adjusted and the prelim format looks good. No items enetered as of yet.

I answered my first question as I see it does have an idex page, HOWEVER, after adjusting setting and the like - nothign is showing on my index page. It is connecting but it is blank.

My next question is do I have to set up a seprate Index page that links into the catalog or is the software suppose to generate that for me?? If so, that is fine as I have one all redy set-up, however, what file do I link it to??

Thanks for any help folks.

Category additions worked great - very easy.

Went to add products - had everythign figured out perfect - added ike 10 at once. Hit the ADD buttn and nothing - no errors, nothing.

Thought it might be the imagemagick error so I deleted that line in the code and re-logged in.

Started over only adding one item and it still did not work. No response after hitting ADD.

Thoughts??

My email is mini-motors@comcast.net

   Latest update -

I can add one product - did a test and it worked, so I deleted it and went for a series of 5 products - took me 20+ minutes to get everything in, but what the heck it is one time and intitial set-up.

Hit Add and nothing again. This is the second round of wasted time I have had today and am now getting fristrated - why would an adding of 1 work but not a series, is that not what the option is for?

Send a direct customer service email through to reference this board. Am anxiously awaiting a response. Hard to take a web site down for more than a couple days.

You are right, there was a problem with imagemagick. You have correctly edited ppaddit.cgi file to remove imagemagick line, however you have not disable imagemagic under "Cart Database Settings" . We did it for you.

We did tests and were able to ad done item with imageges as well as 3 items at a time (also with images). Please review your site and confirm. We are be ready to assist you with linking index page of your site with the storefront of the shopping cart.

Regards,
Support

If it is your intent, you can have shopping cart catalog index page to be your website index page as well. Please e-mail FTP access to your website to our support and they will set it up for you. SO far you only gave us login for the administrative panel of the shopping cart, not the FTP access.

We recommend you to keep your index page and link to the storefront from it. This way you can retain more control over your index page and links on it.

No, these do not need to go on your server.

>c. Am I able to edit the HTML templates using a program

No, you can generate your template HTML in Frontpage and simply paste it into the HTML template fields under "HTML editor".
